Gun Control: What Does a Militia Have To Do With It?

April 6, 2018

On this episode of the Christopher Scott Talk Show Podcast:

I can prove to you that the March for Life movement is nothing more than an attempt to grab political power. Plain and simple, a political power grab. It has nothing to do with gun rights and nothing to do with school safety. (softer) Not everybody believes that…. but that doesn’t change the truth and I can prove it. The fact that so many people are believing that this is simply a bunch of aggrieved kids, and rightly so. They have a right to be upset, I’m not taking anything away from that and frankly school shootings should upset everybody. But, the fact that so many people believe that, that’s what this is about is downright scary. It’s propaganda at its best. Just consider for a minute the historical nature of the movement. It’s the first time, the very first time ever in the history of the United States that there has been a large scale movement to take away rights. It’s never happened before. So to compare this to the civil rights movement or the freeing of slaves is like comparing apples to oranges. Actually it’s like comparing apples to pig slop. I know for some people that might not be popular for me to say that. It doesn’t matter. History will stand as this being the first movement ever in the history of United States in an effort to take away rights.

One of the arguments that’s used to support the cause is that we don’t need a militia any more. That the 2nd Amendment is no longer relevant. The 2nd Amendment says, “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” And besides the foundational principles of freedom involved in this discussion it’s the most widely mis-interpreted section of the constitution. And, I would argue that most of the problems we see in regard to gun violence are because the courts have failed to uphold this right. That now it’s gotten so deteriorated and the result has been consequences exactly opposite of what those decisions intended.
