Veteran Suicide: 22, Twenty Two It's Just a Number Until It's Your Brother

On this episode of the Christopher Scott Talk Show Podcast:

22 veterans a day commit suicide. That's according to the VA. I know there's people that question that number. The fact is it's about twice the general population and even higher among deployed veterans.

It's not a US problem it's an issue in every country that has been involved in wars from Canada to New Zealand.

I got a call a couple of weeks ago from a guy that was in my unit. He doesn't call me ever. He's in California I'm in Pennsylvania. I spoke to him once in almost 30 years at a reunion. He called the phone didn't ring twice and I picked up the call because that's what we do. And, told me that a guy from our platoon had taken his life the night before. This was a guy I knew the second guy from our unit in about a year's time. And, let me just tell you each time was like a kick in the gut. Like a Budweiser Clydesdale winding up and launching a hoof into your stomach.

This isn't a new problem. It's not unique to the United States. So what's causes it, what can be done and what's the impact on the people that are left behind?

That's what we're talking about. The dark world of veteran suicide.
