Police Lawsuits: How Governments Pay

New York City just paid $180,000 to settle lawsuits filed by 3 Muslim women who claimed discrimination because they were required to remove their hijab for booking photos after they were arrested. Another big case was recently settled in Philadelphia. The Plaintiffs in that case were paid $250,000 because the police stopped them from filming them. These aren't cases of police brutality or where somebody was hurt by police but they were able to win some big money in court.
How easy is it to sue the police? You might be surprised. One thing's for sure it's a big business with millions being paid out every year from just about every major police department.
Who pays when the police get sued? Who foots the bill? There's big, big money in lawsuits, especially suing the police and we pay. The American people pay.
