Common Sense Just Isn't That Common Any More

February 6, 2018

This is the transcript of the introduction for this episode of the Christopher Scott Talk Show Podcast:

There's an old saying, common sense just isn't that common any more. Why not? We're living in the information age. You can google just about anything and get an answer. Common sense is still so rare it could be classified as a super power.

When I say common sense I'm talking about decisions and opinions based on logic and reason. That doesn't happen much anymore. Common sense is dead. Maybe that's the reason we don't talk about religion or politics any more. How can you when everything is fueled by emotion?

Is it important? Well if we're ever going to solve our problems it is. One of our founding fathers talked about this he even wrote a book about it. Thomas Paine published the booklet Common Sense in 1776. He was arguably a liberal by the way and got arrested for criticizing a conservative author. That's ironic when you look at what's going on today.

There's a quote by Thomas Paine, "I offer nothing more than simple facts, plain arguments and common sense." As the saying goes Common sense is like deodorant. The people who need it most never use it.

Maybe in today's age of gossip and lies fueled by big media and politicians we should talk about it more.

Maybe then we see more rational decisions instead of decisions made on emotion and politics. So what exactly is common sense?
