Are People Getting Dumber or, Just Naturally Stupid?
On this episode of the Christopher Scott Talk Show Podcast:
Are people getting dumber? I'll have to admit I ask this question pretty frequently. Just take a look at social media and I'm not just talking about the content of the posts. Look at the comments and you'll see what I'm talking about. Or, look at what happens on a regular basis at youth sports events. Look at the way people act and it goes beyond lack of manners.
All kinds of crazy stuff goes on all the time but are people getting dumber and what's causing it? There's a study saying that IQ's having been dropping 7 points a year on average since 1975. We're pretty far into the process. Maybe somebody should have started talking about it sooner.
There's other statistics that are pretty alarming too. 14% of adults in this country can't read and only 13% can read at a proficient level. A whopping 50% of adults can't read at an 8th grade level. This is one example but if people can't read how can they learn? How does someone understand the constitution let alone basic values? It's not impossible but darned difficult. We wonder why it's so difficult to have a conversation based on facts, logic and reason. Well this is the reason. Some people aren't capable of doing it and the scary thing is they can still vote.
There's a few theories why this is happening ranging from too much sugar in our diets, drug use both legal and illegal and of course the internet. But, I think it's something much broader.
So hit the play button!
